A popular Greenport surf shop is opening a second location right on the water.

A haven for outdoor enthusiasts, One Love Beach is eyeing a Memorial Day weekend launch at Port of Egypt Marine in Southold.

Husband and wife owners Blake and Chris Dowling opened their original shop on Main Street in June 2013, selling bathing suits, sunglasses, footwear, sunscreen, cover ups and sporting goods, while offering paddle board rentals. In addition to these day-on-the-water essentials, One Love will begin offering kayak rentals at the new location.

“Our store fits in well with being on the waterfront,” said Chris Dowling. “It allows our customers, who don’t want to deal with traffic and parking in Greenport, access to us during the summer. It’s also great for the boaters who need easy access to sunscreen or a bathing suit.”

The Port of Egypt campus is shaping up to be a hub of summertime fun. The family-owned marina is partnering with two local businesses to add seafood, shopping and paddle boarding into the mix for the 2019 season.

In March, Little Creek Oyster Farm & Market owner Ian Wile announced that a second location, The Station, would open in a former 1920s-era fishing building at Port of Egypt this summer. The shellfish shack will offer U-shuck oysters, educational events and a marketplace for shellfish farmers. Water-based transportation between both locations is also in the works.

“When Ian mentioned he was opening at Port of Egypt, we went over to look at his spot and we started talking about the other available space,” Dowling said. “We weren’t really thinking of opening another store, but it seems like the right thing to do.”

One Love is moving into a vacant 1,000-square-foot building, which for many years was a nautical-themed gift shop.

“To say that we’re excited would be an understatement,” said Port of Egypt Marine general manager Yvonne Lieblein. “The synergy is truly something special. Chris and Blake share our enthusiasm for getting people out on the water, and their passion has created a dynamic, welcoming One Love community. We know it will be great to have a satellite location for their fantastic boutique and paddle board mecca on the property.”

Dowling described the new outpost as having a relaxed and welcoming beach vibe. They hope to open Memorial Day weekend after a few renovations are complete. One Love Beach is currently open at its Greenport location on 211 Main Street.
