The former Deep Water Bar & Grille in Greenport is being transformed into a “higher-end” seafood restaurant that will boast year-round water views. The soon-to-be-named restaurant located at the corner of Front Street is currently under renovation and is slated to open in the coming weeks.
The plans were unveiled at a networking event held at Industry Standard Tuesday night.
“It is going to be a little higher-end, seafood-centric with other plates and a little more refined,” said Emily Kessler, director of events at Green Hill Restaurant Group in Greenport. “The drive there is the harbor views you’ll be able to see all year round. The winter is equally as beautiful [on the North Fork] so why not enjoy it?”
Green Hill Restaurant Group proprietors — father and son Christoph and Robin Mueller — purchased three Front Street restaurant buildings last year. Each will be open year-round and have its own identity and menu, Kessler said.
Green Hill Kitchen, located in the former Harbourfront Deli, was the first to open and while it will continue to serve the menu diners were introduced to last year, it will also soon feature the village’s only boutique butcher counter, which will sell cuts of meats and sausages made by chef Wolfgang Ban, who helms the kitchen at all three restaurants. The upstairs space at Green Hill will continue to operate as a live music venue.
Across the street, Industry Standard retained its name and features a similar menu as it did under its previous owner.
The new restaurant at the former Deep Water Bar & Grille is the one undergoing the most significant changes in 2019 as it will take on a more upscale ambiance than the causal eatery it’s replacing. Kessler said there might be some acoustic performances at the venue, but not on the same scale as Green Hill Kitchen, which hosts a number of live music acts from jazz to Latin and is outfitted with a sound system purchased from the iconic The Stephen Talkhouse in Amagansett.
Prior to opening the new two-story restaurant, the former Deep Water space is undergoing a facelift that includes weather proofing its upstairs loft area to provide guests with unabashed views of Greenport Harbor even on the chilliest of winter days.
All three restaurants will also offer offsite catering and private events.
“We hope to be at the heart of the community,” Kessler said.
