Yoga with a view. What could be better?

That’s what Jackie Zilnicki thought when she decided to launch Farm Yoga. When the weather permits, she will be holding regular yoga classes at her family farm on Reeves Avenue in Riverhead.

“Doing yoga outside is so different than doing yoga in a studio,” Zilnicki said.

Although she has been teaching these classes for about two years, it has mostly been through word of mouth. She now has a website and will soon have social media pages to go along with it, Zilnicki said.

In the past, she has hosted evening Wednesday and Thursday classes, and a Sunday morning class. This year, she is planning on adding a sunrise or sunset class.

“My goal is to build a greenhouse so I’ll be able to do it year-round on the farm,” she added.

Zilnicki has been teaching since 2013 and currently runs classes at Aura Hot Yoga in Mattituck and Maximus in Riverhead.

“The feeling that you get from yoga, in savasana, and even after, you feel that peace, you just want more and more,” she said. “You start to understand yourself. Yoga can heal the body and heal the mind.”

Closer to April, when the weather improves, interested yogis can check her website farm-yoga.com for official schedules and prices. All participants need is a mat and water.

Classes are held in the back of the farm with a pond and farm fields are in view. During night classes, you can catch a beautiful sunset. All fitness levels are welcome.

“Basically I think Farm Yoga is nature’s medicine for healing the body and the soul,” she said. “I want other people to feel good, and I want them to be able to move in a way that feels good to them and experience the peace and love in life. Incorporating that with mother nature is the perfect combination.”
