It is no secret that the North Fork has become a premiere destination for visitors — who can blame them? Now there are more overnight accommodations, most notably in Riverhead.

There are three new places to rest your head: The Preston House and Hotel in downtown Riverhead, the new cabins at Wildwood State Park and the luxury boutique hotel Aqua in Aquebogue.

The 100-year-old Preston House was revamped into a two-story, 88-seat restaurant that opened in February. It’s connected to a newly constructed five-story, 20-room hotel to the rear. Each floor of the upscale hotel has two one-bedroom suites and two studio rooms in the heart of downtown Riverhead.

New indoor accommodations at Wildwood State Park also opened this year. In May, the state parks department unveiled 10 new cottages. Prior to their construction, Wildwood only offered sites for tents and trailers. The units feature a kitchenette, bathroom, furnishings and screened porch for people who want the camping experience without roughing it.

Last but not least, the duo behind the American Beech hotel in Greenport opened a new luxury hotel in Aquebogue. Aqua, an 18-room hotel located at the former Cove Place Inn on Bay Avenue, underwent extensive renovations ahead of its Memorial Day weekend opening. The suites feature either a king- or queen-sized bed outfitted with Frette linens, a flat-screen television, and mini-bar and private deck overlooking the water.
