With so many North Fork destinations based on the North and South roads, it’s easy to miss some of the more scenic and relaxing drives the area has to offer.

And if you stop only at the beaches and vineyards for fresh air, you’ll miss the zen of our trails.

November is a perfect month for a slow, meandering drive across the North Fork and Shelter Island with stunning views of local waterways and acres of undeveloped pastures. You can then stretch your legs with a hike through some of our favorite parks, where the last golden leaves have yet to fall.

We’ve put together a list of our favorite North Fork and Shelter Island roads to travel and paired them with a hike.

See the water views in both directions as you approach Kimogener Point in New Suffolk. Or hike through Peconic Dunes County Park, where the fall foliage meets the bay.

Take this month to get a little lost out here. We’ll help you lose your way with these photos from David Benthal and a link to each hiking spot.
