As the weather cools just a bit, maybe you’re looking for white wines that are still fresh and fruity, but perhaps offer a bit more weight and creaminess without being heavy or tiring to drink. Wines that pair well with roast chicken or various squash dishes.

This week’s “Wine of the Week” — Wölffer Estate 2017 Chardonnay — is a well-priced, 100% chardonnay that fits that bill nicely.

Its aromas start off with ripe, juicy pear and peach but also feature notes of spicy lees and pineapple. Medium bodied, the palate offers fresh fruit qualities — more pear and peaches, but also yellow apple — with a gently creamy mid-palate and a nice bit of well-integrated acidity for freshness. Balanced and elegant, this is the kind of chardonnay winemaker Roman Roth is known for making year in and year out.

You can pick up a bottle at Wölffer Estate’s Sagaponack tasting room for $19.
