North Fork Foodie Tour

food tour north fork

The North Fork Foodie Tour is back and bigger than ever for its 12thyear. The self-guided culinary adventure gives participants a rare behind-the-scenes look at local farms, vineyards and other establishments that have made the region a destination for farm fresh eats and local imbibes.

This year’s Foodie Tour, a fundraiser for North Fork Reform Synagogue, is showcasing 20 locations representing a wide array of food producers in the local artisanal food, wine and beer industries.

Participating locations include Deep Roots Farm, KK’s The Farm, Catapano Dairy Farm, Greenport Harbor Brewery, Macari Wines, Goodale Farms and Lavender by the Bay. Shared Farmhouse Table, North Fork Flower Farm, Raphael Vineyards and Craft Master Hops are new to the tour this year.

“Every year we are fortunate enough to be able to have three or four new venues,” said Kay Freeman, North Fork Foodie Tour co-chair. “We have people that have been to every one of the Foodie Tours since 2007 because they know that, even though they came the year before, there will be something new for them to see.”

You’ll have the opportunity to hear, touch, feel and taste the provisions at the locations and learn more about the products from the makers.

There will also be special speakers at Peconic Land Trust Agricultural Center at Charnews Farm throughout the day, including one of the region’s original culinary pioneers, chef John Ross, who will demonstrate how to cook a seasonal dish made with local ingredients.

New this year, chef Taylor Knapp, owner of Peconic Escargot, will explain the challenges and rewards of starting a business of raising snails to provide fresh escargots to discerning local chefs. Another addition to the 2018 lineup is Leslie Merinoff, who will talk about launching Matchbook Distilling Co. in Greenport.

“We love the fact that, in the behind the scenes tours of the locations, the farmers [and everyone else] get to share their food philosophies and emphasize the benefit of ‘buying and eating local,’” Freeman said.
