In organizing this perfect summer day in Montauk, we planned a trip that requires getting up and out early to hit the other fork.

In the end, you’ll be exhausted if you complete this entire itinerary, but you’ll have had a blast.

This is how northforker does Montauk.

BREAKFAST AT JONI’S KITCHEN

28 South Etna Ave.

Although you can choose to build your own, we suggest you start your morning with the Olé Olé breakfast wrap packed with eggs, guacamole, salsa, black beans, brown rice, pepper jack, jalapeños and sour cream. Leaving this restaurant without fresh-squeezed Beauty School — a refreshingly cool combination of watermelon and lemon juices — would be a huge mistake.

HIKE SHADMOOR STATE PARK TO DITCH PLAINS

900 Montauk Hwy.

For Instagram-worthy views, head east on Montauk Highway for a half-mile to find Shadmoor State Park. Hike the trail to the bluffs overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, then continue along the ocean-side path to find a break leading down the bluffs to the beach (enter at your own risk, it’s highly worth it.) Walk east on the beach and you’ll arrive at Ditch Plains. There you can watch the surfers hang 10 at Montauk’s most iconic surf spot.

HANG AT MONTAUK BREWING CO.

62 South Erie Ave.

End your morning hike with cold beer and cool vibes at Montauk’s first and only brewery, which sits across Lions Field. Embrace their “Come As You Are” motto and enjoy a laidback, no-frills atmosphere that truly embodies the Montauk spirit. While all their beer is notable, the Driftwood Ale is our go-to pick.

LUNCH AT 668 THE GIG SHACK

782 Main St.

668thegigshack.com

Affectionately known by locals as “The Shack,” this Main Street eatery serves up delicious surf cuisine, live music and local libations. The Spicy Tuna Tartare Taquitos will have you reminiscing well into the offseason.

VISIT MONTAUK LIGHTHOUSE

2000 Montauk Hwy.

With a satisfied stomach and ears, jump in your car and drive to the official end of Long Island for a visit to New York State’s oldest lighthouse. Don’t just walk around the National Historic Landmark’s grounds, visit the museum and climb to the top. It’s a steep and winding trip up, but the views are truly breathtaking.

SHOP & STROLL DOWNTOWN MONTAUK

After you get your lighthouse fix, head back west to stroll around Montauk’s lively downtown and wander through the many shops and boutiques. Some of our favorites include Montauk Mainstay, Kailani and Air & Speed Surf Shop. Need a little pick-me-up? Stop by Montauk Bake Shoppe for the town’s best coffee and famous lobster-shaped cookie. If they happen to have any jelly croissants left, we highly suggest you snag one of those too.

CATCH THE SUNSET AT MONTAUKET

88 Firestone Road

For arguably the best sunset views (and people do argue about that topic) on Long Island, the Montauket is an absolute must. This bar and grill (and laid-back hotel, too) is a favorite among locals and vacationers alike. Arrive early, grab a drink and secure your spot to watch the sun set over Fort Pond Bay. And don’t forget to clap as the last bit of sun dips below the horizon; a commonplace occurrence at the Montauket.

DINNER AT CLAM AND CHOWDER HOUSE

470 Westlake Drive

clamandchowderhouse.com

Cap off your action-packed day in Montauk with dinner at the Clam and Chowder House at Salivar’s Dock. This family-run establishment has been in business for more than 20 years and is known to have the freshest seafood, with same-day catch from local fishing boats. Although you can never go wrong with simply grilled tuna or swordfish (frequently found on their specials menu) it’s their sushi that steals the show. Belly up to the sushi bar for fan favorite the Super Dave Roll, which includes tuna, salmon, yellowtail, avocado and spicy sauce with eel on top.
