Dart’s Barn, a gorgeous structure on Main Bayview Road in Southold, will look even more beautiful this Memorial Day weekend when it’s filled with local artwork for NOFO ARTWORKS, an event bringing artists and artisans to the property.

The three-day exhibit features live woodcarving, printmaking and pottery firing demonstrations along with photography and paintings on display in the barn.

“We call ourselves NOFO ARTWORKS because people can actually see it happening — we’re really focused on the works,” said organizer Yvonne McNab, whose husband, Glenn, will be crafting pottery during the event. “We want it to be different than a regular art show.”

The idea for NOFO ARTWORKS stemmed from the NoFo Artists Studio Tour the McNabs helped organized to benefit the Cutchogue New Suffolk Free Library last fall. The self-guided tour allowed participants to visit studios from Greenport to Cutchogue in an effort to raise awareness of different types of artists on the North Fork.

NOFO ARTWORKS has a similar goal of encouraging community-supported art through the free event. The showcase includes nine local artists and two off-the-fork artists with connections to the area, said Yvonne, who lives in Peconic.

“We have a great mix,” she added.

In addition to Glenn McNab, participating artists include Diane Alec-Smith, Randee Daddona, Bob Green, Shannon Guyer, Carol Halliburton, Paul Kreiling, Will Kroeller, Tom Lulevitch, Ruth Westfall and Sue Llewellyn.

“The beautiful location and charm of Dart’s Farm venue was enough to lure me in,” said mixed-media artist Lewellyn, who initially became involved with NOFO ARTWORKS as the graphic designer for the logo, posters and graphics for the website.  “That coupled with the camaraderie of the other local artists, made it a perfect opportunity to show my work for the first time on the North Fork.”

Llewellyn’s award-winning career largely involves book and magazine design, including doing illustrations for various publications. Her art direction has been featured in Psychology Today, Time Out UK, New York Magazine and Vogue, among others.

NOFO ARTWORKS is being held Memorial Day Weekend, May 26-28 at Dart’s Tree Farm at 2355 Main Bayview Road in Southold.

Two special artists receptions will be held on Saturday, May 26 from 5 to 8 p.m. and again on Monday, May 28 from 2 to 5 p.m. Hors d’oeuvres and wine will be served. The artists featured will also have pieces available for purchase.
