The duo behind American Beech in Greenport is opening a new luxury hotel in Aquebogue.
Aqua, an 18-room hotel located at the former Cove Place Inn on Bay Avenue, is currently undergoing extensive interior and exterior renovations ahead of its Memorial Day weekend opening. Owners Brent Pelton and Alex Vinash purchased the beachfront property earlier this year.
“It’s going to be gorgeous,” said Pelton said, who is no stranger to fixer-uppers. In 2014, he purchased Greenport’s historic Stirling Square complex and transformed a portion of the property into the chic 11-room American Beech hotel with a restaurant of the same name. With the final touches at the Greenport location in place, the time was right for the next project.
“We learned a lot during the construction at American Beech,” he said. “Greenport is wonderful, but we have customers who want more of a quiet escape.”
Aqua is tucked away on an acre of land overlooking the Peconic Bay. Guests can expect the same high-end accommodations The Suites at American Beech offer with additional perks like direct beach access and a dockside garden with a lounge area and bocce ball court.
Vinash designed style-forward suites. The Argentinian-born fashion designer created the rooms with couples in mind and modeled them after the upscale costal ambience found at American Beech.
“We wanted it to have a romantic feel,” Vinash said. “It’s bright and simple, but it has an X-factor.”
The suites feature either a king or queen-sized bed outfitted with Frette linens, a flat-screen television, and mini-bar and private deck overlooking the water. Each room also has a private bathroom stocked with Maison Margiela Jazz Club bath amenities.
Future plans for the space include adding a pool, a floating dock for boaters and a snack shack. A special Macari Vineyards-made American Beech rosé is also in the works and will be served at both locations.
“It’s piece by piece,” Vinash said. “Just like in Greenport.”
Guests of Aqua also enjoy priority reservations at the American Beech restaurant in Greenport. Reservations are now being accepted for Memorial Day weekend and beyond. Book your stay at aquahotelbeachclub.com.
