Jennie’s at Drossos, a pop-up that was hosted at Drossos Motel in Greenport for the first time last summer, is set to return this May.
Expect the same dishes and more on the restaurant’s new menu when it reopens May 12 with expanded hours.
“It has always been a dream of mine to open a restaurant on the North Fork,” said chef Jennie Werts, who launched the weekend pop-up last summer with a mouth-watering menu that includes Korean BBQ ribs and fresh caught fried fish tacos at the iconic Greenport motel and mini-golf course.
Local beer, wine and weekly Friday Happy Hour specials will be available along with daily menu specials created with fresh selections from local markets and farm stands. And fans of the Drossos’ longstanding roadside snack bar can rest assured that the buckets of fried chicken and lobster rolls will stay just like you remember it.
“One of my favorite childhood memories is playing mini-golf with my dad and brother at Drossos and finishing it off with a burger from the snack bar,” said Werts. “It was an experience.”
Jennie’s at Drossos is Werts’ first restaurant. The chef is a graduate of The French Culinary Institute (now known as The International Culinary Center) and began her career working alongside top chefs Tom Valenti and Richard Sandoval. In 2014, she was named executive chef at the award-winning Wolfert’s Roost in Irvington and has spent time working locally in the kitchen at Bruce and Son during college.
Werts said she is eying the former North Fork Parish Outreach Thrift Shop located at the eastern end of the Drossos property as a potential permanent location for the restaurant in the future.
“The end goal for my brother and I is to eventually open in a separate space,” she said. “We are in the process of doing that.”
Jennie’s will be opened 7 days a week from noon to 8:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and noon to 9:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday during the summer. It was open only on weekends last year.
The restaurant is located at the Drossos Motel, 69125 Main Road, Greenport
