The Market is hosting an evening of cheese, wine and fashion to welcome the new outpost of The Village Cheese Shop to the Greenport store.

Dubbed the “Cheesy Fashion Show,” expect funky vintage looks from clothing boutique The Times Vintage along with a selection of soft and firm cheeses, refreshments and hors d’oeuvres from the café.

“It’s going to be a party,” said The Market’s owner Shelley Scoggin. “Every March we try to do a little something because it’s the anniversary of the store, but this year it is not about me it’s about our resident cheese man.”

In January, Mattituck’s Village Cheese Shop opened a permanent cheese pop-up within the organic market and café on Front Street, serving cheese on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

“The response has been great,” said Village Cheese Shop owner Michael Affatato. “We have a lot of new faces and The Market’s loyal following has been so welcoming.”

Affatato, who spent most of his adult life living in France, is bringing some international flavors to the event, including some of his own: Bordeaux from his former vineyard in France.

Other highlights are a Swiss fondue, which uses Emmenthaler, Gruyère and Appenzeller cheeses, not to mention the retro fashion show. This is the second year The Market is transforming into a runway that will feature bright, retro looks from the The Times Vintage.

“Last year was a trial run,” said Elizabeth Sweigart, owner of the The Times Vintage.”Having a fashion show in a health market is already a fun kind of cheesy thing. It’s a natural fit for a cheesy fashion show.”

The free event starts at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 8 at The Market, located at 44 Front Street in Greenport.
