Greenport fashion designer Alex Vinash joined the ranks of Dior, Miu Miu and Zac Posen in dressing women who graced the red carpet at Sunday’s 75th Golden Globes ceremony.

Vinash, who operates a clothing boutique at American Beech in Stirling Square, beat out fierce competition to outfit E! News correspondent Erin Lim.

“The stylists approach lots of designers,” he said, noting CHANEL and Gucci as among the frontrunners to outfit Lim. “The competition is high. You never know, so it was a big surprise. I was at the restaurant and we put on the Golden Globes and there she was! I love it because she was hosting with Brad Goreski, a big celeb stylist, and did an interview with Catherine Zeta-Jones.”

Vinash’s modern, yet elegant designs have previously appeared on the red carpet at the Met Gala and the Oscars. His latest for Lim, which stood out with a statement-making shoulder, took Vinash a week of working around the clock to complete.

“It’s all by hand — all the beading and with organza ruffles,” he said.

The all-black gown complemented the underlying theme of the wardrobes at the Golden Globes, which was dominated by the color  in support of the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements — a show of solidarity with victims of sexual assault and harassment.

When asked if he was proud to have his design as part of a larger social statement, Vinash summed it up in one word: “Totally!”
