Riverhead has made a name for itself as a beer lovers’ destination in recent years. Now it will be home to two more tasting spaces.

North Fork Brewing Company has been approved for the former Second Street firehouse, where it will occupy the half of the building opposite Long Beard Brewing Co., which is awaiting state approval before opening its tasting room.

North Fork Brewing Company is headed by cousins Ian Van Bourgondien of Southold and Peter Barraud of Baiting Hollow. They already operate a hops farm in Peconic.

“Our goal has always been to be — and we are — fully licensed as a farm brewery,” Mr. Barraud said at a recent Riverhead Town meeting, where the brewery sought approvals.

No date has been set for either brewery at the space owned by Suffolk Theater owner Bob Castaldi.

They will join Long Ireland, Moustache and Crooked Ladder Brewing as craft breweries with a tasting space in Riverhead.
