Guests at Martha Clara Vineyards in Riverhead rolled up their pant legs and made grape juice the old fashioned way during the annual Chateau La Feet stomp party on Sunday.
Bins of merlot and riesling grapes were laid out in large buckets for people to stomp and pose for photos during the event, which is a celebration of harvest season.
“People get to come out and really kind of almost become children again,” said Martha Clara winemaker and general manager Juan Micieli-Martiniez. “I can’t tell you the number of times they’ve felt like theyve check something off their bucket list.
But should any one have any reservations about vino that has touched the feet of strangers, Micielie-Martinez assures that the leftover grapes are only used for compost.
“This is not used in making wine,” he said.
