Turkish and Mediterranean food is officially on the menu in Greenport as The Olive Branch Cafe opened on Monday.
The café, located in three storefronts on Front Street, offers sit-down and take-out options for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The new restaurant is owned by Turkey native Yusuf Alptekin and his wife Michelle.
“This is a dream for him,” Ms. Alptekin said of her husband.
The restaurant is open daily from 9 a.m. until 10 p.m. The breakfast menu includes five omelette options like a Mediterranean omelette with spinach, onions, peppers, feta cheese and herbs, as well as baked goods.
Lunch options include a smoked Atlantic salmon sandwich served with red onion, olive dip and feta, as well as hummus served on flatbread with lettuce, radish and roasted red pepper. Traditional soups include ayran corbasi, which is made of whole wheat, yogurt, milk, olive oil and dry mint. Ms. Alptekin said lunch will be served all day at the cafe, which is located on the left side of the courtyard.
Across the yard and separated by outdoor dining tables and couches is the café’s kitchen and a sit-down restaurant, which features its own menu. There dishes include a chicken shish kebab wrap and a pineapple paradiso salad served with mixed greens, walnuts, cranberries and dried tomatoes. Desserts include baklava walnut white ice cream and Burma coconut white ice cream.
The Olive Branch Cafe also sells imported Turkish wine, as well as American wine and beer.
It’s the latest addition in Greenport, where restaurants Barba Bianca, Andy’s and the Halyard have also opened in the span of two months.
“There’s room for everybody in this town,” Ms. Alptekin said. “Everybody has a different delivery and a different service, but I think we can add something nice.”
The Olive Branch Cafe is located at 120 Front St., Greenport. No phone number had been set up at press time.
