The local focus on opening night includes the world premiere of the film “Greenport,” screening at 7 p.m. at the Village Cinemas on Front Street. An after party will follow at Noah’s. The festival continues with screenings and panels through Saturday.

The Great Peconic Race is an adventure paddle race circumnavigating Shelter Island. It starts and finishes at Wades Beach and is designed as an elite race for seasoned recreational, advanced, elite and experienced paddlers. The event includes demos, clinics, children’s activities and races, short races, live music and a party on the beach. Open to the public. It’s a fundraiser for the Cornell Cooperative Extension Marine Program.

Chart your own course for a day filled with an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the North Fork food industry with the North Fork Foodie Tour.
