Here’s five events and activities we’d love to check out this week if only we could find the motivation to head to points west and south.
PATCHOGUE
Island to Table
Our friends at Greater Patchogue are the media sponsor for Island to Table, a six-course outdoor dining experience Sunday, July 30 featuring food and drinks from that South Shore community and beyond.
Chefs from several of the top eateries in Patchogue — our favorite downtown outside of Greenport — will be serving up dishes, including Rhum, Toast Coffeehouse, The Tap Room, That Meetball Place, Toro Tapas & Tequila and Farm to Truck.
Some of the food will come from North Fork purveyors, with Crescent Duck Farm, Coppert Kress and Catapano Dairy Farm all in the mix.
Proceeds for the event, which is organized by the Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce and is scheduled for 5 p.m. Sunday, support HomeGrown Change. Tickets are $150.

AMAGANSETT
The Wailers at Stephen Talkhouse
Yes, those Wailers, the remaining members of reggae legend Bob Marley’s band will play a show on the South Fork this Sunday, July 30.
The concert is set for 8 p.m. at Stephen Talhouse in Amagansett and is followed by a reggae night event at 10 p.m.
The Wailers, which formed as its own band following Marley’s death in 1981, still includes bassist and founder Aston “Familyman” Barrett, and original Wailers’ guitarists Junior Marvin and Donald Kinsey.
Tickets for the show are $100 and can be purchased at stephentalkhouse.com.

SAGAPONACK
Chefs and Champagne
The James Beard Foundation’s annual summer tasting party Chefs & Champagne at Wölffer Estate Vineyards features 40 celebrated chefs, many from James Beard Award-winning restaurants, on Saturday, July 29 at 6 p.m.
Wölffer wines and Champagne Taittinger will be poured from the event, which will feature guest of honor Carla Hall, a Daytime Emmy Award-winning chef and cookbook author.
The winner of the Christian Wölffer Scholarship program to support food and wine studies will also be announced.
The North Fork’s own Stephan Bogardus of North Fork Table & Inn will be among the acclaimed chefs at the event. Check out the James Beard Foundation website for tickets ($375) and a complete list of participating restaurants.

PORT JEFFERSON
Port Jefferson Farmers Market
This market, which is open every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., is among our favorites in Suffolk County. Not only does it feature some of the Island’s top purveyors of fresh produce and other artisan goods, but Port Jeff offers a great location for an extended visit beyond just the market.
After you pick up the goods you need, take a stroll to other local shops and restaurants or hit the harborfront for a scenic walk.
You’ll definitely see some familiar North Fork faces at this one.

GREAT RIVER
Bayard Cutting Arboretum
Not in the mood for an event, but want an enjoyable up island experience this week. Head out any day for a visit to the Bayard Cutting Arboretum in Great River.
This 691-acre state park features an arboretum designed by legendary landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted — one of the designers of New York’s Central Park — and a mansion designed by Charles C. Haight and maintained in 1920s style.
The park features a nature trail and house tours, as well as a café and gift shop.
