Long Island’s most legendary singer/songwriter was spotted in Greenport today.

Heather Suter, a co-owner of hot sauce and cigar store Greenport Fire, said a Billy Joel music video was playing on a television inside the store when she noticed the real life Piano Man across the street along with his wife, Alexis Roderick, and the couple’s daughter Della Rose. The trio were enjoying a treat from nearby Sandpiper Ice Cream, she said.

He later popped into Suter’s store and commented that she had “great music” playing.

“He was awesome,” Suter said. “He was very gentlemanly and very sweet.”

He complimented the store’s decor, which features a variety of vintage records hanging on the walls, and even played a little air piano. He also agreed to snap a selfie with Suter, which she posted on the store’s Instagram account.

Suter, a huge Billy Joel fan, said she could hardly contain herself.

“I was shaking like a leaf. That’s why my picture was blurry,” she said.

We also spotted Joel in the village in 2013, when he docked his boat “Alexa” in the harbor.

But he’s not the only celebrity who was spotted around town this week. Last weekend LL Cool J and Mary J. Blige attended the wedding of LL’s daughter Italia Smith at Sparkling Pointe in Southold. And late last year actor Aaron Paul was in town filming scenes for the Hulu series The Path.
