June 1
Boating safety

Southold Free Library will host a New York State boating safety course for ages 10 and up from 5 to 9 p.m. The course will be held again on June 2. To register, call the library at (631) 765-2077.

Love Lane First Fridays

Love Lane KItchen

Enjoy the best of Mattituck on the first Friday night of the month through October. Love Lane will be closed to traffic with vendors set up in the street.

Participating local businesses will offer special discounts, demonstrations or giveaways in their stores all day. The event runs from 6 to 9 p.m.

June 3
North Fork Waiter Race

Watch as North Fork servers carry a serving tray and race from the Opportunity Shop to Claudios and then on to The Market. The event raises money for Eastern Long Island Hospital. Local waiters and waitresses can register at The Market in Greenport by calling (631) 477-8803.

June 4
Founding Families Weekend

The Southold Historical Society.

Southold families are invited to celebrate and learn about roots in the community that stretch back to 1640 at the Southold Historical Society’s first Founding Families Weekend. The fundraising event, which will be hosted rain or shine, will explore the stories of the families who first settled the North Fork. A complete event schedule and locations can be found at Registration prior to the weekend is $25, while a two-day ticket costs $30 in person. Children under 10 will be admitted for free.

Southold American Legion 24th annual golf classic

Brunch at 11 a.m., shotgun start at noon. Refreshments will be served on the course. Following the tournament, the Legion Post will host an open bar with a prime rib dinner and raw bar. Numerous prizes for golfers as well as a special raffle will be held. The cost is $165 per golfer.

Take a hike at Sound View Dunes

Take a stroll through the woods at Sound View Dunes Park, one of our favorite public spaces on the North Fork.

The unique park offers the best of two spectacular worlds — lovely vistas of Long Island Sound as well as peeks of interdunal swales, which are freshwater wetlands located between dunes.

The park is open to the public year round from dawn until dusk.

Taste the East End event

Enjoy a night at the annual Taste the East End event where local restaurants pair their signature dishes with local craft beer, wine and cider. The party is at the Long Island Aquarium and runs from 7 to 9 p.m.

Paddleboard meet-up

Call One Love Beach surf shop at (631) 333-2064 to get on the e-mail list for the weekly community paddle boarding meet-up. Or visit the store’s Facebook page on Tuesday morning for the weekly locations.

There is no fee to attend. The shop offers rentals if you don’t have your own board.

June 14
Steak Night at Polish Hall

Enjoy a steak dinner and celebrate veterans at this Flag Day event. The meal is $20 per person and includes a porterhouse, salad, mashed potatoes, vegetables, gravy and a dinner roll. The dinner runs from 6 to 9 p.m.

The Mattituck Lions Club Strawberry Festival kicks off. The fruit-filled fun continues through Sunday, June 18.

Shelter Island 10K

The 38th annual Shelter Island 10K run will be held in the center of town at 5:30 p.m. The event includes the Shelter Island Plus 5K race/walk and community fun walk for kids. Visit Harbes Family Farm for Father’s Day

Harbes offers something for every member of the family. Wine tastings for parents, the barnyard adventure for the little ones and fresh produce, doughnuts and strawberry lemonade for everyone.
