Preparing local duck from Crescent Farms or sautéed asparagus from Bay View Market and Farms calls for the proper cookware.

Enter Chef Fran’s Kitchenware, a new store set to open in Jamesport’s downtown area Friday, April 14.

The approximately 500-square-foot storefront is on Main Road, located in the former home of the Pitted Olive, which closed at the end of 2016.

Owner Fran Walker is a veteran in the food industry, having spent years running a catering company and teaching cooking classes. She most recently operated a kitchenware store in Oyster Bay.

She said her customers can expect personal attention as well as merchandise and cooking demos.

“I want to educate people in terms of their cooking skills,” said Walker, who lives in Riverhead. “This is showing people how to use their equipment. It’s more than just selling product.”

The store will sell upscale brands like Cuisinart, SodaStream and Nespresso. She also plans to carry cheeses, honey and loose leaf teas.

She’ll also offer pots and pans from the Danish PFOA-free cookware line Scanpan.

“It’s the best pan to cook in,” she said.

Fresh in-season produce and local poultry and livestock farms make the North Fork a vacation and second home destination for home cooks. But when Walker’s store opens it will be the only kitchenware shop between the Tanger Outlets in Riverhead and Complement the Chef in Southold.
