Add another unique business to Greenport Village this season.
Tea and Tchotchkes, a new store selling exactly that, will open on Front Street April 7.
Southampton residents Brittany Calvert, 28, and her husband Ken Deeg, 35, are the shop’s owners. Calvert first became acquainted with the harborfront village while working for nearby women’s clothing store Calypso St. Barth.
“I fell in love with the town and the people here,” Calvert said, adding that the merchandise is precisely curated. “Everything in here is stuff I’ve enjoyed over the years.”
The store will offer “a little bit of everything,” including one-of-a-kind bags, scented candles, exotic and common houseplants, essential oils, clothing and more.
Some of the items venture into the naughty, including a planter shaped like a woman’s naked torso and a greeting card that reads “F— it, I love you.”
And as the name suggests, loose organic teas will be available as well.
Deeg’s custom wood work, which includes the store’s shelving and three driftwood framed mirrors behind the cash register, is on display and for sale. Almost all the wood is salvaged, much of it from pallets.
“Pretty much everything in the store we custom built ourselves,” Calvert said.
If the store has a theme, it’s vintage with a hint of rock and roll.
A pair of wooden lounge chairs made by Deeg from pine slats and reclaimed pallet wood greet visitors at the entrance. Look again and you’ll see a color-changing light emitting a psychedelic glow from inside.
“I’m a classic rock kind of gal,” Calvert said.
