The Suffolk Theater has a new chef in the kitchen.

Chef Matt Kar, owner of Jamesport Manor Inn and Christopher Michael Catering, has signed as the theater’s new chef, according to a press release issued Wednesday.

“Together, Matthew and his team bring to the table over 30 years of culinary experience and quality farm-to-table dining,” the release states. “Expertly prepared, each dish is infused with excitement, sophistication and pure artistry.”

In 1993, Kar launched Christopher Michael Catering, an operation named for his two sons. About 13 years ago, Kar took ownership of the Jamesport Manor Inn.

In the years under Kar’s leadership, the Jamesport Manor Inn has continued to reflect his philosophy of cooking with fresh, local ingredients.

Daniel Binderman, the theater’s general and artistic director, described Chef Kar as “one of the greatest chefs of the East End” and believes his ability to feature local cuisines exquisitely will appeal to the theater’s diverse audiences.

“Jamesport Manor Inn and Christopher Michael are known as destinations themselves on the culinary level,” he said. “This is what we’ve been hoping for a long time. We’re very excited to work with him.”
