Bridge Lane Wines 2016 Sauvignon Blanc. (Credit: Lenn Thompson)

We’ve had a mild winter so far , so I can’t really complain too much. It’s been relatively mild and we haven’t had that much snow (can you hear that? It’s me knocking on wood). But when a wine like this week’s wine of the week, Lieb Cellars 2016 “Bridge Lane” Sauvignon Blanc makes its way to my tasting table, I can’t help but long for warmer weather — summer ideally, but spring works too.

It just makes me think of warm-weather, outdoor gatherings with friends — at the beach, by the pool or just on your deck.

Don’t let the label fool you. It’s labeled as New York State, but all of the fruit that went this first-ever Bridge Lane Sauvignon Blanc is from the North Fork, some estate, some purchased from nearby vineyards. All of the Bridge Lane wines are labeled New York State to afford them the flexibility to include upstate fruit if they need or want to.

Also like all of the Bridge Lane wines, it’s available in 750 ml bottle for $18, 3L box for $38 (the equivalent of four bottles) and  20L (which comes out to more than 26 bottles) keg for $240.

Light bodied, citrusy and low alcohol (12%), with just a bit of herbal character, this isn’t a wine to dissect and ponder. It’s a fresh and clean sipper — one that even picks up a bit of melon and pineapple as it gets warmer — that is best enjoyed with lighter foods, friends and fair weather.

Once it’s released today online and at the Bridge Lane Tasting Room in Mattituck, I know that I plan to keep a box of the stuff in the fridge for mid-week, anytime sipping.
