Combine delicious empanadas with a puppet show and cookie decorating and you have a recipe for a festive family afternoon.

Goodfood. in Mattituck will host a holiday event featuring Katie’s Puppets on Saturday, Dec. 17, from 10 a.m. to noon.

The Pike Street restaurant will set up a cookie-decorating station for kids, while serving complimentary hot cocoa and holiday cookies. Puppeteer Katie Polk of Katie’s Puppets, and her adorable sidekick, Mr. Mouse, will begin their show at 11 a.m.

Katie’s Puppets, which has become well-known among educational organizations and youth clubs on Long Island, has performed for over 200,000 children. This Saturday’s performance includes Mr. Mouse, a cute blue character who likes to sing. The program promises giggles and includes The Holiday Candle, as well as Mr. Mouse’s favorite song, Cheese is Life, Life is Cheese. Children are encouraged to sing along.

“It seems like everybody out here is always doing a beer or a wine tasting. We wanted to do something for the kids,” said GoodFood. co-owner Luchi Masliah.

GoodFood.’s menu specializes in empanadas, offering a variety of combinations such as barbecue pulled pork and fresh mango; black bean and corn; and bison. They also serve  sandwiches, quesadillas, falafels, quiche and more.

Good Food is located at 535 Pike Street in Mattituck. For more details, call (631) 298-7599 or visit gfperiod.com.
