The Orient Country Store has a little more sparkle this month with the addition of a new disco-themed holiday window display.

This is the first time the store’s window has been decorated and co-owner Miriam Foster said she is excited to show it off. In previous years she said she just decorated the large windowspace with antiques kept nearby.

“It’s never been as fantastic as this,” she said, pointing to her display of hanging rotating snow people and disco balls. “I’m so happy.”

Jeff Lee, a long time customer of the store and a part-time Orient resident, designed the display. He calls it “Studio Fifty Fork” using New York City’s infamous nightclub Studio 54 as inspiration.

Foster said the choice is fitting given that customers have come in and reminisced about the club’s wild parties.

Studio Fifty Fork features a man and woman snowpeople, disco balls with red ribbons and silver Christmas trees underneath. Foster noted the holiday/winter theme extends beyond the Christmas holiday.

She left a piece of paper on the counter so customers can leave their thoughts on the new display.

One customer wrote, “It looks so great at night and gives me a smile every time I drive past.”

Another said, “Certainly made my Monday morning brighter.”

Foster said she is overjoyed with the positive feedback and can’t wait for the next holiday to come so she can have a new scene decorated. She said this will be a new tradition.

“Winter on the North Fork is kind of quiet,” she said. “People are really responding to it and it makes me want to do more every time.”
