Rierhead Holiday bonfire

The 17th annual downtown Riverhead bonfire is set for Saturday, Dec. 3, from 4 to 8 p.m.

Bring your family (along with a thermos and chair) to the Peconic Riverfront for a celebration that includes hot cocoa, candy canes and holiday music. Then get toasty by the 30-foot blaze and watch as Santa lights the town Christmas tree.

While the Big Man in Red has traditionally pulled up to the festivities via boat, he’ll make a different entrance this year.

“Santa is coming in by horse and carriage,” said Diane Tucci, executive director of the Riverhead Business Improvement District Management Association.

The bonfire is sponsored by Riverhead Town and the Riverhead BID.

For more information, contact Councilman Jim Wooten at (631) 727-3200, ext. 226, or Carissa Collins at (631) 727-3200, ext. 253. A rain date is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 4.
