Old Point Schoolhouse

The Beach Plum Shop in Orient, which is as unique as the local gifts that fill it, is a must-add for your list of holiday shopping destinations.

The Oysterponds Historical Society opened the store, located at the Old Point Schoolhouse, last weekend. It will open again  Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 3 and 4, as well as Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 10 and 11, from noon to 4 p.m.

With a name that serves as a nod to “:The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” from “The Nutcracker” Christmas ballet, one can expect a festive experience upon entry. The shop features local art, including picturesque landscape scenes and North Fork photography, among other pieces.

Handmade gifts such as knit scarves, holiday décor and a wide variety of ornaments are also available. You’ll also find themed greeting cards along with East End-focused books. The store’s first weekend was a huge success, with some inventory items, like handcrafted teddy bears, already sold out.

The Orient organization invites you to shop local and support your community. Proceeds benefit Oysterponds Historical Society while providing recognition to local artists and their craft.
