Tweed's Restaurant & Buffalo Bar Cognac

Tweed’s Restaurant and Buffalo Bar in Riverhead is kicking off the holiday season by serving one of the world’s most expensive cognacs: a 100-year-old bottle of Remy Martin Louis XIII.

Created in 1874, Louis XIII cognac is distilled from grapes grown in Grande Champagne, a region in France known for its cognac.

“It’s 100 years of craftsmanship,” said Kevin Graham, Remy Martin’s market manager for the tri-state area. “It takes four generations of cellar masters just to produce one bottle.”

Tweed’s owner Ed Tuccio said he paid as much as $2,500 for the bottle and plans to charge $100 a serving.

“I think we’re the only ones to have it on the North Fork,” Tuccio said. “We’ve always had high-end cognacs, but never Louis XIII. We have all the Cuban rums and nobody has that; we have the best tequilas, so why not do Louis XIII?”

Of course, the price of that cognac pales in comparison to the one offered at the Four Seasons of Beverly Hills. There Remy Martin Louis XIII Rare Cask 42,6 will set you back $40,000 per bottle or $800 per glass.

In other news, Tuccio also touted the upcoming Thanksgiving dinner the restaurant hosts every year.

“It takes three days to cook Thanksgiving,” he said. “We start on Tuesday, then Wednesday and Thursday we prepare everything old-school.”

Professional caterer, personal chef and Aquebogue resident Duane Lewin prepares the meals. Lewin has been a personal chef for many New York families, including classical pianist and composer Vladimir Horowitz.

“I started in 1968 in Quogue for a family and it just went from there,” Lewin said. “It takes 16 turkeys to do Thanksgiving here.”

Tweed’s Restaurant and Buffalo Bar will serve a prix-fixe Thanksgiving dinner from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday. The cost is $32 per person. Reservations can be made by calling (631) 208-3151.
