Pop-up Grace & Grit

Grace and Grit is now hosting a weekly pop-up burger shop in Southold.

The owners of the catering company were looking to do something with their Main Road tasting room following a busy wedding season. Enter a pop-up shop that offers the North Fork community access to quick and casual meals.

“Living here we don’t really have any fast food options,” said Jennilee Morris, co-owner of Grace and Grit and also co-owner of nearby North Fork Roasting Co. “Not that this is fast food, but when you want to go out and have a casual, quick, grab-and-go bite, sometimes it can be challenging, especially in the off-season.”

Starting last week, crowd-pleasing foods like hamburgers and french fries will be available for take-out from the Grace and Grit kitchen. Last Thursday’s first pop-up burger event was a rip-roaring success, Morris said.

“We just put up the Instagram post, as well as a couple flyers in the coffee shop,” she said. “I couldn’t believe how many people came out, it was standing room only.”

That response told Morris and her business partner Stephanie Pincar-Coleman that they were onto something. Grace and Grit now plans to host a pop-up burger event every Thursday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

“The concept is more take-out, but we do have a communal table in the tasting room that seats about 16,” Morris said.

Along with their regular burger, Grace and Grit also serves a “stuffed burger.” Last Thursday’s version was filled with bacon and onion jam, but Morris said next Thursday’s burger could be packed with something completely different. They also make a patty that Morris calls “one of the best vegan burgers out here.”

Burgers start at $9, while the stuffed burger is $10.50

Also on the menu are Grace and Grit’s homemade french fries, pickles by Backyard Brine, cheeses like cheddar and gorgonzola, bacon, pickled jalapeño, fried onions and fried egg.

Other pop-up meals being planned include fried chicken on Wednesdays. In December, Grace and Grit will unveil its Supper Club, which will involve weekend dinners focused on different regional cuisines. The Supper Club will require a reservation.

Grace and Grit is located at 55750 Main Road in Southold. For more information call (631) 876-5521 or follow the business on Facebook and Instagram.
