Crazy Beans Greenport

Judging from the line snaking out the door of Crazy Beans Sunday morning, this column might be completely unnecessary. You all appear very much aware of this new Greenport eatery.

Located at the longtime Front Street home of the former Coronet diner, Crazy Beans is suddenly the hottest spot in town for eggs, bakey and North Fork Roasting Co. java.

Nonetheless, it is still this week’s northforker pick for a meal. Instead of the paninis and sandwiches we regularly select at lunchtime, we suggest getting up early this week.

We’ve long been fans of Crazy Beans’ Miller Place location and the egg quesadilla and huevos loco burrito. Filled with cheddar, bacon and Crazy Beans’ secret sauce, the latter is also on the menu in Greenport.

But on a recent visit we selected the pumpkin pie pancakes ($11.95). Two dinner-plate sized pumpkin flavored pancakes served under a cinnamon cream sauce and a dollop of whip cream. Either plan to have leftovers or share this meal with another diner.

Crazy Beans is one of those eateries that is perfect to take the whole family. It’s loud on weekends, so you don’t have to worry too much about the little ones disturbing anyone, the decor is colorful and the young ‘uns seem to really enjoy the whimsical salt and pepper shakers. While I sat at the counter two were shaped like elephants. The hilarious pair at the seat next to me were shaped like a toilet and urinal.

If the kids can hack the wait, breakfast is so worth it.

Crazy Beans is located at 2 Front Street, Greenport. The kitchen is open from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. (631) 333-3426.
