If Vintage Mattituck Wine & Spirits liquor store looks larger to you these days, that’s because it recently expanded into the space next door, taking over the former Subway sandwich shop.

Vintage Mattituck’s owner Paul DeVerna said he jumped at the opportunity to grow the storefront.

“We started talking to the landlord about expanding as soon as the sandwich shop moved out,” he said.

With an extra 1,000 feet of new space added to their 1,200-square-foot store, Vintage Mattituck nearly doubled its size.

“It gives us the opportunity to have more of a selection now,” DeVerna said. “There are more racks now for even more fine wines. People have been very happy with our prices; they just wanted more of a selection.”

Part of Vintage Mattituck’s specials include free wine tastings held every Saturday afternoon between 4 and 7 p.m.

“We send out an email to the customers on our mailing list and usually offer discounts on those items being tasted,” DeVerna said.

Well-known for stocking many popular, as well as lesser-known, Long Island wines, DeVerna wants to expand his local collection even more.

“Every month we add more local wines,” he said. “The goal is to have a much more local representation.”

While the liquor store is obviously thriving, the adjacent Greek Bites hasn’t fared so well, as the eatery closed its doors last month. It is not clear if another tenant is lined up for the space.

Representatives from Cardinale Management, which owns the shopping center, did not return calls seeking comment.

Vintage Mattituck is located at 10095 Main Road in Mattituck. It is open seven days a week, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and noon to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
