It’s mid-August, the corn is high and North Fork farm stands are bustling with activity.

We checked in with Krupski Farms (38030 Main Road, Peconic), to see what should be on your shopping list.

“Oh my goodness, everything,” exclaimed owner Mary Krupski. “August is the best time of year because everything is just big and beautiful.”

Krupski recommended the farm’s watermelons and summer tomatoes, including field and heirloom varieties. Other recommended produce items included cucumbers, squash and peppers.

“This is the season, our white corn is amazing, our tomatoes are falling off the vines and we’ve had a bumper crop of watermelons this year,” she said.

Heirloom tomatoes and onions are the main focus at Garden of Eve Organic Farm & Market (4558 Sound Avenue, Riverhead).

“We have all the different colored tomatoes,” said farm owner Eve Kaplan-Walbrecht. “Green ones, white ones, rainbow-striped and yellow, so that makes for a really nice tomato salad.”

Garden of Eve has also already harvested most of their onions for the season. Kaplan-Walbrecht also recommends peppers now, as well as eggplant.

“We have a lot of sweet onions available and those will store almost all winter,” she said.
