Riverhead will celebrate everything Polish this Saturday, August 20 and Sunday, August 21 with the annual Polish Town Civic Association Fair and Festival. The free street fair and carnival will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., both days.
Visitors can enjoy a variety of foods, crafts, imports, jewelry and other specialty booths. The official 2016 T-shirt, Polish Town mug and souvenir cookbook will also be available for sale. Music on both days will be provided by DJ Hank.
The day’s festivities will begin at 10 a.m. with a Polish Mass at St. Isidore’s R.C. Church, at 11:30 a.m. there will be a flag raising ceremony with a Polish choir performing. A re-enactment of a traditional old fashioned Polish wedding on the church steps will follow at noon with other demonstrations of Polish customs.
Be sure to come hungry because there will be plenty of great food like Polish Town’s famous kielbasa sandwiches, pierogis, stuffed cabbage and grandma’s Polish babka bread.
Get ready to dance into the evening with the annual Polka Festival in Polonaise Par from 5 to 11 p.m. Music will be provided by The Boys along with Mike Costa and the Beat. Admission is $13 for adults and $8 for children under 12.
Say hello to Miss Polish Town USA 2016, Stephanie Clark, who will reign over the weekend festivities.
On Sunday, family entertainment will begin at 12 noon under their pavilion. Activities will include the annual Kielbasa Eating Contest at 2 p.m. and the corn husking competition for children at 3 p.m.
