A specialty shop selling handmade items from recycled sails opened its ninth location in Greenport this summer.

Sea Bags, which is based out of Portland, Maine, sells mostly totes along with other small items like trays, clutches, wristlets, placemats and wine bags.

“We have gotten a lot of positive feedback from the locals and the tourists,” said store manager Anne Flick. “People not only think it is very unique, but they also think it is perfect for Greenport with their matching nautical themes.”

The Front Street store operates under the motto “Once a sail, forever a sea bag,” and its repurpose theme has helped it grow a solid customer base since the store opened Memorial Day weekend.

Greenport is the first New York location for Sea Bags, which currently operates two stores in Maine, one in New Jersey, four in Massachusetts and one in Connecticut.

“This location really works well with Greenport’s whole aesthetic,” Flick said. “I think with the casual sense and feeling that Greenport gives off, Sea Bags really touches on that. We have very high quality products that are simple, yet beautiful and people love them.”

Sea Bags is located at 29 Front Street, Greenport and is open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
