What do you do on Friday afternoons in the summer when your restaurant has a beautiful outdoor bar and dining area? If you’re the team at American Beech in Greenport, the answer is to host a weekly New England Clambake all summer long.
Beginning this Friday, July 1, the restaurant will host the weekly events from noon to 3 p.m at its 45-seat pergola-covered patio and outdoor bar.
“We really wanted to utilize the outside bar area more this summer, so we came up with the clambakes as a fun thing to do,” said the restaurant’s new executive chef Kyle Romeo.
For $25 you get a half-lobster, clams, mussels, potatoes and corn. Greenport singer/songwriter Julia King will perform live during the events.
“We want to keep it approachable and fun,” said American Beech owner Brent Pelton, who added that the concept reminds him of the old New England clambakes of yesterday. “It should be a festive scene.”
Reservations are suggested for the event, but walk-in seating will be accepted.
The clambakes are one of the first initiatives started under Romeo, a Southold native who has worked at several North Fork restaurants including the Jamesport Manor Inn, the Jedediah Hawkins Inn and North Fork Table and Inn.
“Kyle has been working with us since we opened,” Pelton said. “He really has a passion for using local, fresh and seasonal produce.”
Opened last year, American Beech earned a coveted “very good” rating from The New York Times. The menu serves a variety of American fare, including seafood, steaks and comfort food.
American Beech is located at 300 Main Street in Greenport. Their clambakes will take place every Friday afternoon from July 1 through September 2. For more information call the restaurant at (631) 477-5939 or visit americanbeech.com.
