3070 Peconic Ln

Go back in time with this authentic Italiante Victorian on Peconic Lane in Peconic.

The house, which dates back to the mid 1800s and was restored about 35 years ago, sits on a little more than two acres.

Marie Beninati of Beninati Associates, who owns the property and is selling it, explained the Italiante Victorian style.

“It has more delicate finishings than regular victorians,” she said. “Lighter and more delicate, it’s just a refinement of the victorian style.”

At more than 4,5oo square feet the home includes a master suite and three more bedrooms. There’s a formal great room or parlor; an informal great room with a fireplace; two dining rooms, including one with a fireplace; and four bathrooms.

The grounds are equally as impressive and include an oversized swimming pool, a private meditation pond, a three-car garage with a workshop and a loft, plus extensive gardens all over the property.

‘The gardens are really everywhere,” Beninati said. “There are specimen trees, some as tall as 30 or 40 feet that have been there for a long time and they really surround the whole property.”

The trees, along with a variety of flowers and hedges create a natural fence around the entire perimeter.

A major surprise in the historic house are the hand-painted frescos on the ceilings, believed to have been created around the early 1900s.

“We had someone come in to look at restoring the frescos,” Beninati said. “She said they were museum quality and to not touch them.”

The wrap-around porch is the finishing touch, creating almost another room where guests would enjoy themselves when the house functioned as a B&B.

“We had a wonderful experience running it as a B&B,” Beninati said. “This house would be good for someone who really wants to go back to a gentler time, because it’s very peaceful and inspiring.”

The house was originally built by Jesse Lewis Case, the Postmaster of Peconic, who was appointed by then President Grover Cleveland. In a little over 150 years, the house has had just four owners.

“I don’t think there’s another house on the North Fork like this one,” Beninati said. “I’m sure there are bigger houses and more beautiful ones, but it’s the history that makes this house.”
