The America made a rare stop in Greenport Friday. (Credit: Katharine Schroeder photos)

The schooner America sailed into Greenport Harbor this morning after being delayed over a day due to high winds and unsafe weather conditions.

Originally scheduled to spend two days in Greenport, the boat is due back in Connecticut tomorrow. The crew offered free walk-on tours and Captain Troy Sears hosted the entire fifth grade class from Greenport School early in the afternoon during the event hosted by the East End Seaport Museum.

The America is a replica of the historic 19th century schooner that won the first America’s Cup sailing trophy.
