Earlier this month, we told you Anthony Nappa is one of four North Fork winemakers highlighted in a June 2016 Wine Enthusiast article about the future of the local industry.

Now, the magazine has awarded a coveted 93 points, or “excellent,” to Raphael Winery’s 2013 Primo Reserve Estate Bottled Red — a wine Nappa produced in his role as winemaker at the Peconic operation. It’s among the highest rankings the publication has ever given a Long Island wine.

“It was just a few short years ago when it was impossible for a Long Island wine to get anything higher than a 90-point score from any publication,” said Nappa, who is also winemaker of the eponymous Anthony Nappa Wines in Peconic. “Now we are seeing huge interest and recognition of most Long Island producers.”

Raphael isn’t the only Long Island winery earning accolades in Wine Enthusiast’s June 2016 issue. The following vineyards also received scores of 90 points or higher, with many being ranked multiple times:

• Anthony Nappa Wines
• Bedell Cellars
• Channing Daughters Winery
• The Grapes of Roth
• Jamesport Vineyards
• The Lenz Winery
• Lieb Cellars
• Macari Vineyards
• Martha Clara Vineyards
• One Woman Wines and Vineyards
• Paumanok Vineyards
• Pellegrini Vineyards
• Pindar Vineyards
• Southold Farm + Cellar
• Shinn Estate Vineyards
• Sparkling Pointe
• Waters Crest Winery
• Wolffer Estate Vineyard

“The Long Island wine industry has quickly made strides in garnering recognition for the quality of the wines across the board and breaking the glass ceiling on scores,” Nappa said.
