Back to the Bays 5K
Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County hosts its second annual “Back to the Bays” 5k and Family Fun Day this Saturday, May 14.
Runners will start and finish at Cedar Beach County Park, enjoying a lovely view of Peconic Bay along the way. The race kicks off at 9 a.m.
Following the race, participants and members of the general public are welcome to explore the Suffolk County Marine Environmental Learning Center, where Cornell researchers and educators will be on hand. There will be activities for the kids including fish printing and art and science projects. That event is free.
The race entry fee is $25, or $20 for Back to the Bays program members. Register for the race online at BacktotheBays5K.itsyourrace.com.
Cedar Beach is located at the end of Cedar Beach Road in Southold.
Fleece and Fiber Fair at Hallockville
Sheep and llama shearing demos, crafts for sale, baked goods and food trucks all add up to a great time at the Long Island Fleece and Fiber Fair at Hallockville Museum Farm in Riverhead on Saturday, May 14 and Sunday, May 15.
Visitors will observe and learn how local artisans craft wool and other animal fibers into beautiful finished pieces of clothing and art. Many of the events also demonstrate how things were done in years past on the farm.
Tickets for the Long Island Fleece and Fiber Fair are $6 for adults and $4 for children ages five to 12. Kids four and under are free. Hours for the event are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday (rain or shine).
Hallockville Museum Farm is located at 6038 Sound Avenue in Riverhead.
North Fork Community Theatre Presents Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
The musical comedy “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” will be presented this month at North Fork Community Theatre in Mattituck.
Performances will take place Thursdays through Sundays, May 12-29.
The action, involving two con men and the women they encounter, takes place on the French Riviera. The 2004 musical is based on the 1988 film of the same name. The book is by Jeffrey Lane, with music and lyrics by David Yazbek.
Show times are 8 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and 2:30 p.m. on Sundays.
Admission is $20, with student rush admission of $15 offered 10 minutes before curtain, if available.

A capella Festival in Mitchell Park
Greenport Village Trustee Doug Roberts has invited nine high school and college a cappella groups to sing at Mitchell Park in Greenport this Saturday, May 14, at 2 p.m.
Students from Greenport and Riverhead high schools will perform, as will headliners Sigma’cappella of Hofstra University and the all-male Princeton Nassoons.
Each group will have a few minutes to perform their selections, with some schools bringing multiple a cappella groups to the event, which is free to attend. The audience is encouraged to bring picnics, blankets and lawn chairs, Mr. Roberts said.
The Multicolored Ties, an all-male group from Northport High School, will also sing, said Roberts, one of the group’s founding members.
Mitchell Park is located along Greenport’s Front Street.
Burning of the Vines
Jamesport Vineyards is celebrating 30 years of growing North Fork wine by hosting a “Burning of the Vines” party, where food cooked over a bonfire of old vine branches will be served.
During the party, Jamesport will also unveil its new Thimeo wine, a cabernet franc and merlot blend. It was made in collaboration with French cooperage Tonnellerie Bossuet, which makes some of the winery’s oak barrels.

Riverhead Garden Club Plant Sale
The Riverhead Garden Club hosts its annual plant sale at Old Steeple Community Church in Aquebogue on Saturday, May 14.
The event runs from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Plants, shrubs, flats, containers and baked goods will be available for sale.
Proceeds from the sale benefit a garden club scholarship and local beautification projects.

Artist Reception at Martha Clara Vineyards
See the stunning landscape portraiture of local photographer Jon Schusteritsch at Martha Clara Vineyards in Riverhead this weekend.
The Sound Ave. vineyard will host Schusteritsch’s photos for the month of May through its Artist Residency Program. Schusteritsch’s photography will be on display in the tasting room.
There will also be an artist’s reception at 2 p.m. on May 14 and his work will be available for sale through the exhibit.
