A native Long Islander, photographer Jon Schusteritsch is still wowed by the beauty of the Island, especially on the North Fork.

Originally from Wantagh, a few years ago Schusteritsch and his family moved to Cutchogue, where his wife is originally from. He fell in love with the area and photography gave him the opportunity to explore it, he said.

“A lot of it is still undisturbed, there’s a peaceful tranquility to it,” he said.

Schusteritsch, who works for PSEG as an analyst in the utility company’s mapping department, began working as a wedding photographer on weekends, while also photographing the North Fork. He took on the hobby more seriously about seven to eight years ago, he said.

An opportunity to display some of his work a few months ago at the Starbucks in Mattituck got him noticed by Martha Clara Vineyards.

“They called me, saying they really liked my work,” he said.

The Sound Ave. vineyard offered to host Schusteritsch’s photos for the month of May through its Artist Residency Program. Schusteritsch’s photography will be on display in the tasting room. There will be an artist’s reception at 2 p.m. on May 14 and his work will be available for sale through the exhibit.

While Schusteritsch shoots a little bit of everything, the Martha Clara show will feature his North Fork landscape photography, which includes farms, coastlines, sunrises and sunsets. He considers his landscape photography a special project.

“I didn’t grow up with farms around me, so I still have that little kid inside me, especially when it comes to tractors and trucks,” he said. “I still get excited by them and luckily I have a three-year old son who also likes tractors.”

Jon Schusteritsch is Martha Clara Vineyards’ artist in residence for the month of May. Meet Schusteritsch and see his work during a reception on Saturday, May 14, from 2 to 5 p.m. For more information call (631) 298-0073 or visit marthaclaravineyards.com. The event is free, Martha Clara Vineyards is located at 6025 Sound Avenue in Riverhead.
