Country Corner Cafe, a luncheonette and ice cream parlor located on Main Road in Southold, is once again on the market.

Owner Kelly Huntstein said she is selling the nearly 20-year old restaurant to spend more time with her family.

When asked if people had been inquiring about the eatery, her reply was, ” I only get like 25 questions a day.”

“People are asking me why and it is important for me to express to them it’s nothing personal,” Huntstein said. “I thoroughly enjoy being here, but my family comes first.”

The café’s long hours have kept her away from her daughter Katie, 18, and son Ryan, 14, she said.

“We’ve had the store since before both of them were born,” she said. “They say they don’t want us to do this, but sometimes you need to do the things you think are best.”

Huntstein originally opened Country Corner Cafe back in 1997 and ran it for 13 years before she sold it to Jennilee Morris in 2010. Morris operated the eatery as Bonnie Jean’s until three years later when Huntstein bought the restaurant back. Morris then went on to co-found North Fork Roasting Company in 2015 with Jess Dunne.

Now that the restaurant is back on the market, Huntstein is confident she will find a restaurateur willing to carry on the business, which offers dinner-style staples like omelets, burgers and reuben sandwiches.

Huntstein understands that whoever buys the restaurant may take the restaurant in a different direction, but based on the number of responses she has been getting, she is comfortable with the prospect that Country Corner Cafe has a healthy future beyond her ownership.

“While there is always room for improvement, we hope they will keep it the same to the basic core of what it is,” she said. “All we can do is try to find the next owner that’s going to love it like I do.”
