We live in a digital age, but Garden City native Lisa Glover is a proponent of sending handwritten cards — especially for no particular reason.

“Ever since I was a kid I used to always send cards to friends, family and co-workers — just because,” Glover said. “A lot of stores don’t have a ‘just because’ section in their card department. There’s always anniversary and birthday cards, but finding cards that are ‘just because’ are kind of hard to find.”

Glover spent her childhood summers in Southold, where her aunt and uncle have a home. She drew inspiration from those idyllic North Fork days for the first collection in her new “Just Because Notes” card line.

“It’s always been a special place for me,” Glover said. “I felt like the North Fork was my little escape. I know the streets backward and forward. It’s an area that promotes inspiration.”

The North Fork Collection is a set of eight blank cards with prints of iconic local scenes like farm stands, beaches and vineyards. It retails for $16 and will be sold at Love Lane Sweet Shoppe immediately following Memorial Day weekend.

Designed to be “just because” cards — not birthday or thank-you — the blank interior challenges the giver to write a truly individualistic note, Glover said.

“Maybe a friend needs a little pick-me-up or perhaps they did something really special,” she said.

When she isn’t designing cards, Glover lives and works in New York City as a publicist. She expect her cards to be available in stores in Cutchogue, Southold and Greenport by the end of the summer.

“I always say to people the North Fork is my favorite place in the world,” she said.

Love Lane Sweet Shoppe is located at 125 Love Lane in Mattituck. Glover also sells her cards on Etsy. For more information, visit justbecausenotes.com.
