A caravan of old-timey tractors is about to make its way down Route 48.

Motorists who are in a rush might want to steer clear of Sound Avenue and Route 48 on Sunday, April 24, when the Long Island Antique Power Association hosts its second annual Tractor Run. There is a participatory donation of $20 and all proceeds benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Suffolk County. Additional donations are appreciated.

Last year’s parade raised about $2,300 for The Wounded Warrior Project, organizers said.

Sunday’s event kicks off at 8 a.m.

The parade of vehicles will leave from the organization’s grounds at the corner of Herricks Lane and Sound Avenue in Northville and make its way east, ending at Erik’s Breakfast and Lunch in Southold for brunch. It will then return to the organization’s headquarters. A police escort will accompany the caravan both ways. On Route 48, the tractors will travel on the four-lane highway’s shoulder.

The trip takes about 1 1/2 hours each way, with the tractors topping out at 10 miles per hour, said Jude Petroski, a member of the event’s organizing committee.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation’s mission is a cause close to Petroski’s heart, as his 21-year-old son, Michael, suffers from cerebral palsy. The organization sent the Petroski clan on an all-expenses trip to Walt Disney World about a decade ago.

“It’s a fundraiser to support them because they do such a great job,” Petroski said of Make-A-Wish.

Petroski, son Michael and wife Kathy will ride in a hay tractor in Sunday’s parade.
