The temperature might still dip below freezing at night, but the recent openings of these North Fork farm stands and markets remind us that the days of beach permits and boating excursions are drawing near.
Mattebella Vineyards, which has one of the most beautiful outdoor tasting venues on the North Fork, opens for the season on Friday, March 18, at 11 a.m.
The Southold winery will be open Fridays through Mondays from 11 a.m. through 5 p.m. through the month of March. It will be open Thursdays through Mondays throughout April and Wednesdays through Mondays in May. It will be open seven days a week from June through October.

Here are some more North Fork farm and eateries opening soon:
• Need your horseradish fix? Schmitt’s Family Farm, located on Sound Avenue in Riverhead, will reopened for the season on Thursday, March 17. The farm will be fully stocked with its own homegrown horseradish and sauces made in-house under the Holy Schmitt’s Homemade Horseradish label.
The farm will be open every day until Easter Sunday (March 27). It will then only be open on weekends until May, with the exception of Passover week — Monday, April 25, through Friday, April 29 — when it will be open every day.

• A Lure Chowder House and Oysteria will reopen for the season on Thursday, March 17. The chef Tom Schaudel-owned eatery is also giving away a dinner for two on its Facebook page.

• And Fink’s Country Farm in Wading River will be open on Palm Sunday, March 20, selling palms and crosses, according to its Facebook page. The farm stand will be open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Easter Sunday, March 27.
