The songs of North Fork singer/songwriter Julia King tell tales of both brief dalliances and long-lasting romance.

From the empty bottles of the evening to the strong cups of coffee the next day, the Greenport resident’s anthems are full of universal truths. At 28, she’s had her share of heartbreak, and has given herself permission to feel all the emotions that come along with it.

“The most important thing is to stop judging yourself for your desires or what you’ve done in the past,” King said. “Songwriting is like touching the hearts of other people. Through my suffering I can understand yours.”

And coffee may be the nectar for the local singer songwriter’s new folk rock album “The Morning After,” which was released in January. But wine is a close second.

So, it’s only fitting that Lieb Cellars will host King at its Oregon Road tasting room Friday, Feb. 12, from 6 to 9 p.m., for a celebration of this milestone in her music career. King is also a senior sommelier at the Cutchogue winery.

“A year ago you could have asked me, ‘Are you going to be gigging around Brooklyn and the North Fork with a full band?’ ” said King, a Southampton native. “I would have said no.”

But just around that time, King, who has been singing since childhood, saw her music career begin to take off. She played her first live performance at Lieb Cellars in October 2014. Soon after, she was invited to play a song on a collaborative album of local musicians called “One Guitar Project.” From there, she was introduced to Mick Hargreaves of the Lantern Light Recording Rig studio in Manorville, where she ultimately recorded her first album.

“The more you open yourself up to your art and skill the more doors open one after another,” she said.

From writing to recording to wrangling musicians to have a full backing band on each track, King’s five-song album has been no easy feat. “The Morning After” is a culmination of over a year of work both in the studio and out, and Lieb is excited to have King on the bill.

“Julia’s music is original,” said tasting room manager Alicia Ekeler. “There are some very talented cover artists in the area, but not many that can fill an hour with original songs.”

Though King wrote her songs with nothing more than an acoustic guitar, her upcoming gig will emulate the rich, full-band sound found on the album. Fellow local musician Will Roslak played piano on “The Morning After” and he will perform alongside King at Lieb.

“Julia is one of the wisest people I know, and her music is representative of her intelligence,” Roslak said. “It’s great to have such a talented person on the North Fork, and I encourage the community to support her artistry.”

Copies of ‘The Morning After” will be on sale for $10 at the album release party. There is no charge for the event. For more information or to contact King visit www.juliakingmusic.com.
