One of the most noticeable agritainment complexes on the North Fork’s main artery is no more.

Gabrielsen’s Country Plant Farm, which offered seasonal hay rides, corn mazes and a kiddie bounce house in addition to greenhouse-grown shrubs, annuals and perennials, has left its longtime Jamesport location. The retail business closed at the end of 2015.

The Main Road property, which is owned by a group of investors, has been largely cleared and is now listed with real estate firm Brown Harris Stevens. A for sale sign stood at the property’s edge Wednesday morning, though the listing agents did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

The 37-acre property has been listed for $4.5 million, according to Multiple Listing Service. An online listing advertised the parcel as”ideal for allowed business use with residential development rights on balance.”

Gabrielsen’s Country Plant Farm owner George Gabrielsen, a longtime farmer and a former Riverhead Town Councilman, said he will focus on the company’s wholesale business and its four-acre growing operation on nearby Herricks Lane.

“[The owners] decided after a number of years that they wanted to sell it and that’s fine,” Gabrielsen said Wednesday. “We have a wholesale business and that’s doing very well. We’re concentrating on that.”

His parents, Walter and Helen, now 90 and 85 respectively, have operated a retail business on the site since the early 1970s. Gabrielsen said he is now in the process of selecting another nearby location for retail and is “strongly considering” offering agritainment options come fall.

“We are probably going to open another site in the spring,” he said.
