There’s a new place to stay during your Greenport Getaway this winter.
The Suites at American Beech, the chic new inn and restaurant in Greenport’s Stirling Square, began renting rooms in November. The inn sits above the New American restaurant of the same name which opened in late summer.
“The rooms are stylish, self-sufficient and extremely comfortable,” said owner Brent Pelton, who purchased the entire Stirling Square complex in 2014. “There’s personality to the rooms.”
Designed by Dan Mazzarini of the Manhattan-based BHDM Design, the suites feature a neutral palate and a modern coastal vibe. Expect a flat screen TV, mini bar, private bathroom and Frette luxury linens in every room. The building, completely gutted and renovated, features exposed ceiling beams and oak floors stained gray.
“The building is over 100 years old, and was originally a barn. We had to re-pour all the footings for the building, and rebuild the entire structure from the inside out. However, we were able to keep—and expose—the original beams in some of the guest suites,” Mazzarini told Interior Design Homes.
The structure was most recently home to the square’s former anchor restaurant Main. That restaurant and three surrounding casual eateries closed in late 2013.
To appeal to locals in the off-season, the eatery will offer several specials this winter.
Look for a wine dinner series on select Thursdays at 6 p.m. starting this week. A four-course meal with local wine is $75. The schedule is as follows:
Dec. 10: McCall Wines
Jan. 7: Martha Clara Vineyards
Jan. 28: Jamesport Vineyards
Feb. 11: Kontokosta
Feb. 25: Macari Vineyards
March 10: The Lenz Winery
March 24: One Woman Vineyards.
Wednesday and Thursday dine and stay packages are available and $10 meal specials will be served at the bar three nights a week. Wednesday is chef’s pasta night, Thursday is grilled cheese and a bowl of soup and Sunday is meatloaf and mashed potatoes.
Happy hour, with half-priced drinks and free bar snacks, runs 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday.
“We’re trying to be as inviting to everyone as possible,” Pelton said. “I think it’s important that we are open to the North Fork community.”
