Make a resolution to get your male dog or cat neutered during Kent Animal Shelter’s “Happy Neuter Year” campaign, which runs all through January.

It only costs $20 for the procedure, which helps prevent unwanted litters and reduces the homeless pet population. Spaying and neutering is one of the most effective ways to control the homeless pet population and is safe for puppies and kittens as young as eight to ten weeks old, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association.

“Neutering male pets is a simple surgery that reduces unwanted behaviors, like roaming, fighting, and urine marking territories,” Kent Animal Shelter executive director Pamela Green said in a statement. “It also guarantees your dog or cat never fathers a litter of puppies or kittens.”

Kent Animal Shelter is a 501C3 organization that provides a no-kill haven for homeless animals, adoption services, a spay/neuter clinic, and humane education.Their “Happy Neuter Year” $20 rate is less than their normal low-cost price and is available to all residents of Long Island.

The campaign is sponsored by PetSmart Charities, Inc., a nonprofit animal welfare organization that saves the lives of homeless pets. More than 400,000 dogs and cats find homes each year through its adoption program in PetSmart® stores and sponsored adoption events. PetSmart Charities is a 501(c)(3) organization, independent of PetSmart, Inc.

Pet owners who wish to take advantage of this offer must mention the “Happy Neuter Year” campaign when they schedule their appointment. This campaign is based upon availability and appointments are limited.
