On a sunny, balmy Tuesday morning this week, birds of many feathers gathered in the pond at Stars in the Forest Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Riverhead.
The Sound Avenue facility was incorporated as a nonprofit 16 years ago by Terry Pratt of Lake Ronkonkoma. The 19-acre wildlife rehab center was built and began operating in 2010.
It is surrounded by 250 acres of land preserved through the conservation efforts of the Peconic Land Trust and the Reeve (Richard and Avis Reeve, their son Richard L. Reeve and his wife Debbie, Caryl Reeve Granttham, who was Richard Sr.’s sister) and Pratt (Terry and here husband Randy) families.
Peconic Land Trust board members, the late Paul Stoutenburgh and Arthur Tasker, also helped facilitate the effort.
